Drawdown
A decline in portfolio or strategy value from a previous peak.
A drawdown measures the fall from a previous peak in an account or strategy’s value. It remains open until that value reaches a new peak. Maximum drawdown is the largest such decline over the measured period.
Drawdown adds path and risk context that total return cannot show. Its duration and recovery time can matter as much as its depth when deciding whether a strategy is practical to trade.
